At the French Bulldog Foundation of America, we are dedicated to advancing the health, welfare, and longevity of French Bulldogs above all else through scientific research, public education, and advocacy for ethical practices.
Our mission prioritizes functional, healthy conformation and inclusivity for all French Bulldogs, regardless of non-breed-standard colors or traits. We believe every French Bulldog deserves the opportunity for a healthy life, and we work to reduce preventable health issues through transparent testing and education.
We support the AKC Code of Sportsmanship and encourage participation in activities such as performance, agility, and certifications including Canine Good Citizen, Therapy Dog, Fit Dog, and related programs — without involvement in show-ring politics.
We promote ethical breeders who conduct verifiable health testing and screening of both parents in accordance with or exceeding the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) recommended breed tests (including hips, heart, patellas, and eyes), with emphasis on additional screenings such as Respiratory Function Grading (RFG)/Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), spine, elbows, trachea, and Cystinuria Type 3.
The FBDFA has already conducted two OFA Health Clinics that featured Respiratory Function Grading (RFG)/BOAS testing. These clinics make critical airway screening more accessible to French Bulldog owners and breeders who might otherwise face geographic or cost barriers.
We are actively seeking grant support and donor partnerships to expand this work — funding additional clinics, covering evaluator travel and lodging, and bringing RFG/BOAS testing to more communities.
Greater access to this screening is one of the most practical ways we can improve respiratory health and quality of life for the breed.
If you are a foundation, corporate partner, or individual interested in supporting these clinics, please contact us. Your grant or donation directly increases the number of French Bulldogs who can be evaluated.
The French Bulldog Foundation of America operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused solely on breed advocacy and health improvement. We are not affiliated with any parent club, nor do we engage in referral services, advertising, or monetized listings. Our audits and recognition programs (including the Legacy of Health and Verified Breeder designations) are conducted voluntarily to promote transparency and accountability within the French Bulldog community.
Recognition through our programs reflects documented compliance with health-testing and transparency standards. It is not an endorsement of any individual breeder, kennel, or breeding program beyond the specific criteria verified at the time of review.

~And Neither Do We~
Inclusive Advocacy for French Bulldogs
The French Bulldog Foundation of America (FBDFA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health, welfare, and longevity of French Bulldogs through scientific research, public education, and advocacy for ethical breeding and ownership practices.

With an estimated 99% of all French Bulldog litters bred by a non-FBDCA member (reported by OFA through AKC in 2023), the most popular breed for the fourth consecutive year (2022-2025) is purposefully unrepresented AND unsupported by a Parent Club.
Let that sink in... because what it means is that the mechanism that is SUPPOSED to be in place to keep this breed on track from a logistics standpoint has CHOSEN to turn their back on nearly every AKC registered French Bulldog that doesn't subscribe to current parent club politics... and the biggest registration revenue opportunity for AKC is running hot... basically unrepresented and on their own...no mentors, no guidance, just virtue-shaming...
And few seem to care beyond a keyboard stroke... at least when it comes to actual effort. The Frenchies, the breed that captivated us since 1897 with their magical personality and ability to connect in ways that other breeds can't replicate... they deserve more than a drive by ethics dash.

The dogs deserve to be considered.
So what can we do? Easy. Go back to basics and assess what UNITES us as a community that cares about the longevity and health of this breed as a whole:

Your generous donation advances research, education, and ethical practices for all Frenchies—regardless of color or traits.

The FBDFA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The club is led by a volunteer board that consists of four officers, eight board members, 6 committees, and a legislative liaison.
Membership is open to French Bulldog breeders, owners, and enthusiasts who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this organization.
