Audit of FBDCA Parent Club Breeder Referrals
At the French Bulldog Foundation of America (FBDFA), we independently verify compliance with the Parent Club's current recommended health tests and stated policy for listing Breeders on their public Breeder Referral page, fact-checking their stated criteria against the public list of referras, using publicly accessible sources, such as the OFA database.
We've successfully identified several breeders on this list who do exactly what is required by the Parent Club to be included on their Breeder Referral page, which is encouraging and applauded.
And then there are others...
Our Parent Club Breeder Referral List Audit includes notations on whether full health testing records can be confirmed publicly as advertised (e.g., "Verified," "Partially Verified," or "Unable to Verify"). This transparency empowers consumers in their search for ethical breeders, prioritizing verifiable health practices over affiliations or politics.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR FBDCA BREEDER LISTINGS: In order to be listed (as of 12/15/2025):
- Must obtain OFA CHIC (Orthopedic Foundation For Animals - The Canine Health Information Center) certification, being screened for every disease recommended by the French Bull Dog Club of America, for dogs and bitches used as breeding stock.
- Must submit all required tests to OFA and all those tests must be verifiable in their public database.
All breeder information presented below—such as names, locations, contact details, and kennel names—is sourced directly from the FBDCA's publicly available Breeder Referral Page at https://frenchbulldogclub.org/breeders/.

As the CURRENT French Bulldog of America President and Spokesperson, the following should be noted as not complying with current stated French Bulldog Club of America Breeder Referral Page requirements:
- Must obtain OFA CHIC (Orthopedic Foundation For Animals - The Canine Health Information Center) certification, being screened for every disease recommended by the French Bull Dog Club of America, for dogs and bitches used as breeding stock.
- Must submit all required tests to OFA and all those tests must be verifiable in their public database.
Based on a review of publicly available information from the PedigreeDex profile for Bandog French Bulldogs, the OFA database (via a compiled PDF of Bandog-related entries), and the kennel's website (bandogfrenchies.com), the following discrepancies were noted as of November 13, 2025 (with ages calculated accordingly; current date November 19, 2025):
Owned Dogs Compliance:
- The kennel lists 26 owned dogs (11 males, 15 females), all owned or co-owned by Ms. Sosa.
- Only 1 dog (4%) has verified CHIC certification: BANDOG’S HIT ME A HOMERUN AT BULLE ROCK (Male, born Aug 2, 2020; CHIC #184671, full tests completed).
- The remaining 25 dogs (96%) have incomplete tests or no public OFA records. Examples include:
- BANDOG’S TRICK OR TREAT (Female, birth unknown), have no records at all.
- BANDOG’S JEWEL OF THE NILE AT SAGEHILL (Female, born Jul 6, 2019): Incomplete (hips, eyes, cardiac; missing patella).
- Ages for dogs with known birth dates range from approximately 5 to 19 years (average ~13 years), with older breeding stock showing particularly limited testing.
Produced Dogs and Parental Compliance:
- The kennel has produced at least 79 dogs (34 males, 45 females).
- Examination of pedigree snippets for several produced dogs reveals inconsistent adherence to the requirement for both parents to have public CHIC certifications. Examples:
- BANDOG’S TEMPTRESS (born Jan 12, 2019): Sire (A’Vigdors Code D’Honneur Of Bandog) incomplete; Dam (Bandog’s Trick Or Treat) no record.
- BANDOG’S STAND UP AND CHEER (born May 23, 2017; has CHIC): Sire (Bandog’s Feel the Magic) incomplete; Dam (Gardien Bandog Yankee Doodle Dandy) no record.
- EMPIRE N BANDOG’S I’M WITH POSH (born Oct 10, 2019; has CHIC): Sire (Bandog’s A League of His Own at Tx Star) verified CHIC; Dam (likely from Empire kennel) incomplete or no record.
- This pattern indicates that many litters were produced without full parental CHIC compliance, potentially undermining the FBDCA's ethical standards.
Website and Disclosure Practices:
- The bandogfrenchies.com homepage describes the kennel but provides no current dog listings or comprehensive health details.
- Individual dog pages (e.g., for BANDOG’S MONA LISA, BANDOG’S ORIGINAL SIN) mention partial health information, such as "eyes OFA normal" or genetic clearances by parentage, but omit full OFA/CHIC details—even for dogs with verified CHIC in public records (often co-owned).
- This suggests selective disclosure, prioritizing certain tests (e.g., eyes, genetics) over the complete orthopedic and cardiac results required for CHIC.
While the kennel highlights impressive show achievements—including 5 national specialties, over 200 group 1 wins, 44 all-breed Best in Shows, and numerous BISS/group placements—and claims a focus on health testing, the data shows limited full CHIC compliance, especially among older and breeding dogs. Recent dogs exhibit more testing, but it remains inconsistent overall.
Given Ms. Sosa's leadership roles within the FBDCA, these findings are particularly concerning, as they may reflect on the club's commitment to its own standards.
Suggest contact the Breeder Education Committee to investigate these matters, verify the public records through direct OFA queries, and take appropriate actions to ensure compliance. Promoting transparency in health testing is essential for the welfare of French Bulldogs and the integrity of our breeding community.
