The French Bulldog Foundation of America was proud to have a booth on-site at the ABKC Better the Breed Dog Festival & Dog Show — and even prouder of the health initiatives we brought to the community.
We sponsored an OFA health clinic offering Advanced Cardiac exams and Respiratory Function Grading (RFG) testing to screen for BOAS. This gave Frenchie and Bully owners real, actionable insight into their dogs’ respiratory health.
We also hosted a Train the Trainer session and are thrilled to share that we helped get our first veterinarian in South Carolina certified to perform RFG testing. That means expanded access to this critical screening for our community moving forward.
We tested multiple dogs, including those who attended the clinic from outside the show. One highlight: a Grand Champion Bully earned an outstanding RFG Grade Zero!
The Foundation also sponsored a drawing for four paid RFG BOAS evaluations. These help raise visibility and awareness for this non-invasive test, which takes about 15 minutes and assesses the Respiratory Function Grade. Originally focused on French Bulldogs, Pugs, and Bulldogs, the scheme has expanded to many other breeds, including (but not limited to):
Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Dogue de Bordeaux, Brussels Griffon (Griffon Bruxellois), Japanese Chin, English Toy Spaniel (King Charles Spaniel), Pekingese, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
A huge thank you to Dr. Julia Ziegler and Dr. Hall of Palmetto Veterinary Cardiology for joining us and offering these health tests at a discounted rate. Your support makes a real difference in the health and future of the breed.
We couldn’t have done it without our wonderful volunteer Christie — thank you for your commitment.
And to Spencer — you outdid yourself with this show. Job well done, and thank you for having us!
Together, we’re building a healthier future for our dogs, one test at a time.
Join us in our efforts to make a difference in the world. Whether you volunteer your time, donate funds, or spread awareness about our cause, every little bit helps. Together, we can create lasting change and improve the lives of those in need.
